About Me

Mitchell Smolkin EFT Therapist, Psychotherapist TorontoI have had a lifelong passion for psychotherapy. I have taken steps in my education and professional career to ensure that I am as prepared as possible to engage in the work with integrity and purpose. To this end, I have a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, I am certified as an Emotionally Focused Therapist with a specialization in couples and families, and I am a candidate in Jungian Psychoanalysis, a rigorous 6-year training program in individual psychotherapy. I am also part of a crisis assessment team in a hospital Emergency Room.

As a psychotherapist, I am deeply aware that psychotherapy is a reciprocal process. I expect the same from myself as I do from you, and as such, my training involves my own participation in psychotherapy and I maintain supervision to ensure that you receive the best care possible. I am constantly engaged with the most current research in mental health, and I write academically as well as participate in and present at conferences.

I’m an associate clinician at two independent psychology clinics in Toronto. In addition to these positions, I have a private practice at the Forest Hill Centre for Psychotherapy. I believe that your choice of therapist is a very personal and important decision, and if I’m not the therapist for you, I will help refer you to someone who is.

In order to determine whether we are a fit, for those without insurance, initial individual consultations are free. My services are covered by most extended health benefits (please check for Clinical Psychology or Psychotherapy in your schedule of benefits) and I work with clients to ensure that they can get the support they need taking financial considerations into account.

I offer two convenient locations across Toronto and a flexible schedule with evening and weekend appointments. I also offer phone and Skype counselling in the event that geography is an obstacle or you are travelling and require support.

I understood early on that to help my clients, I needed to take my own personal and professional risks, so that I could lead by example and support those I work with with integrity. This is a principle philosophy to both my work as a therapist and also the foundation for the oldest and most longstanding therapeutic traditions.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.
